There are lots of variables and I could create a dozen itineraries. But for the sake of this blog, I’m going to write out your “Must-Dos” as if you’re staying for a weekend. So Friday evening through Sunday morning in Omaha - let’s go!
Day one
-
You’ll be staying at one of the most admired hotels in town, located in the lively Blackstone District. You’ll appreciate the fantastic design, high-quality hospitality, and access to so many places in town.
-
You already grabbed dinner on the way in, so now you’re just looking for a nighttime treat. Lucky for you, one of the USA’s Top Ice Cream Shops is located right down the street from the Cottonwood. Grab a scoop of one of their unique and delicious flavors as you walk up and down Farnam Street.
-
Bob and Willie’s Wonderbowl is located right across the street from your hotel. So meet up with your family, friends, or do it solo - and enjoy a fast-paced game of mini bowling. In a funky fun atmosphere with great beverages and a lively outdoor patio, Wonderbowling is a hip and playful way to end the day.
Day Two
-
An absolute must for anyone coming to town for the first time. Our Zoo has been ranked #1 in the U.S. on multiple occasions and offers a beautiful and expansive experience.
-
With brick-paved streets, the Old Market is a charming few blocks of some of the best restaurants and boutique shops in town. You’ll often hear some live music or witness street performers. If you want to get in more steps, head over to the Riverfront for for a stroll.
-
You’ve had a big day and worked up an appetite! Luckily you have so many options to choose from. Feelin’ fancy? Try Memoir. Craving sushi? Blue is great! Looking for a totally one-of-a-kind experience? Boiler Room.
Day three
-
Catch the sunrise over our stunning Bob Kerry Pedestrian bridge, just north of Downtown. It connects Nebraska to Iowa - there’s even a state line you can straddle!
-
Voted #1 in town, grab a delicious brew and pastry, supporting local. These guys make it great. Make sure you have some time to wait in line!
-
If you’re hopping on I-80, do a quick stopby to Kenefick Park, located at Laurtizen Gardens. For free, you’ll be able to see Centennial No. 6900 - the largest and most powerful diesel-electric locomotive ever built - and Big Boy No. 4023 - the world's largest steam locomotive.
Of course, there are endless possibilities of how you explore our city - this is just a sample! Omaha is great for families and offers many experiences for kids. It’s great for foodies, nature lovers, and history buffs. You can make your own Omaha Bucket List by visiting Visit Omaha or Omaha Places, both listing hundreds of options for events, restaurants, and activities in town.
