TV Troubles?
Here’s how to find the right size, height, and style for ultimate viewing pleasure.
Fall is TV time in our household. New seasons of shows (my favorite is Below Deck) and of course our Saturdays are spent watching Nebraska Football — Go Huskers! But TV style and placement doesn’t come easy. We want everyone to enjoy the screen, but is there a way to make it more functional? In this blog, I’ll describe different sizes, heights, and styles of televisions so you don’t miss a single play!
Size:
When choosing the right size of TV for your space, consider how far away you’ll be sitting. A good rule of thumb is:
6ft or less, 32-inches
6-8ft, 42-inches
Over 8ft, 50-inches
You want the TV to feel proportionate to the space. We’ve all been in homes where the screen is overwhelmingly big or terribly too small.
Height:
Once you’ve got the size down, start considering height off the ground. There are two main options for this — mounting it on the wall or using a TV stand. To prevent straining your neck or slumping your shoulders, try and keep the TV close to eye level. This will depend on the size of the room and the arrangement of your furniture, but some standard measurements are:
42in TV, 56in from floor to TV center
55in TV, 61 inches from floor to TV center
Keep TVs away from the ceiling if you’re mounting it over a mantle and always consider if you’ll be sitting or standing more in that room.
Style:
Now that size and height is done — it’s time to choose the style! There are countless brands of TVs these days with a variety of features. Think about what this TV’s main purpose will be. Is it to watch fast-paced football? Is it for your children to play video games? Or does it act more like a Bluetooth speaker to play great music? Consider things like resolution, sound quality, and smart features as you look for the right fit.
If you don’t want the TV to be the main focal point in your living space or if style matters more, there are now TVs that emulate art frames, displaying beautiful imagery within a customized frame instead of a black screen. If you don’t want to see it at all, some entertainment centers have cabinet doors or hidden storage spaces.
I love cheering on the Huskers with family and friends and I love watching my favorite Halloween movies (have you watched Hocus Pocus 2 yet?). Fall is the time to get the house cozy and comfortable and when our living room feels set up right, we can do just that.
