Comfy Fabrics to Cozy Your Wintertime

When it comes to winterizing your home, it’s not just about checking your furnace or shoveling snow. We also need to consider how the soft surfaces in our home can help bring us warmth and comfort. Let’s look at the fabrics that surround us on those cold and dark winter nights.

From sheets and blankets to pillows and window curtains - we’re surrounded by textures, weights, colors, and styles of fabrics. If you’re in the Midwest, you understand the importance of having good-quality materials for the different extremes. Using different fabrics for different seasons not only keeps the temperature regulated, it’s also a fun way to change up the interior design of our home without having to do a massive overhaul.

In this month’s blog, we’re covering some of the most popular fabrics for wintertime and how you can integrate them into your home with ease and style this season.

VELVET

Nothing shouts luxury winter style more than velvet. In many colors and popular on sofas and chairs, velvet is buttery smooth and soft to the touch. It’s thick and warm, perfect for large-scale areas. Velvet can be used in formal rooms such as dining rooms or sitting rooms, but it’s also an excellent choice for throw pillows or blankets in a more casual room.

FAUX FUR

Intended to look like real animal furs, faux fur is a plush and cruelty-free way to add style and warmth into your home. The hues and colors are essentially limitless as this synthetic material can be made to look like any animal fur. It adds great texture and interest, but try not to overdo it. Add pops of faux fur to your room such as small rugs or one or two decorative pillows.

CASHMERE

With excellent insulation and the most luxurious feel, cashmere has always been a popular winter fabric. Using cashmere adds high-class interest to any room - whether it is used on a rug, ottoman, or chair. It’s easy to maintain and never goes out of style.

WOOL

It’s easy to think of wool when we think of winter. This homey and relaxing fabric surrounds us in the wintertime from our sweaters to our socks. Merino wool is an excellent sound buffer, improving the acoustics of any room. From rugs to curtains to blankets and sheets, wool is a common fabric that is afforadable and available. Wool comes in many colors and can be used virtually anywhere a fabric can be used in your interiors. You’ll stay cozy and warm all winter with wool around.

LEATHER

This timeless and versitle fabric is an excellent choice for large-scale pieces like couches or chairs or small decorative pieces like poufs or pillows. We’re seeing leather pop up everywhere because of its warmth and durability. It’s durable, long-lasting, and its variety of hues and colors add interest in every room. Leather on it’s own can be cold to the touch during winter months, but add a wool throw blanket and it’s sure to be a cozy and comfortable night.

However you’re thinking about changing up your interiors this winter, consider replacing some fabrics. Think about the colors and styles that fit best with your room and don’t be afraid to get creative! As always, choose items that work best for your family and lifestyle, and you’re sure to make your house feel like your favorite place to be.
